چکیده
This paper presents a novel framework for combining well known shape, texture, size and resolution informatics descriptor of solitary pulmonary nodules (SPNs) detected using CT scan. The proposed methodology evaluates the performance of classifier in differentiating benign, malignant as well as metastasis SPNs with 246 chests CT scan of patients. Both patient-wise as well as nodule-wise available diagnostic report of 80 patients was used in differentiating the SPNs and the results were compared. For patient-wise data, generated a model with efficiency of 62.55% with labeled nodules and using semisupervised approach, labels of rest of the unknown nodules were predicted and finally classification accuracy of 82.32% is achieved with all labeled nodules. For nodule-wise data, ground truth database of labeled nodules is expanded from a very small ground truth using content based image retrieval (CBIR) method and achieved a precision of 98%. Proposed methodology not only avoids unnecessary biopsies but also efficiently label unknown nodules using prediagnosed cases which can certainly help the physicians in

متن کاملAutomated classification of pulmonary nodules through a retrospective analysis of conventional CT and two-phase PET images in patients undergoing biopsy
Objective(s): Positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) examination is commonly used for the evaluation of pulmonary nodules since it provides both anatomical and functional information. However, given the dependence of this evaluation on physician’s subjective judgment, the results could be variable. The purpose of this study was to develop an automated scheme for the classific...
متن کاملA STUDY OF 765 CASES OF CLINICALLY SOLITARY COLD THYROID NODULES FROM AN IODINEDEFICIENT AREA
We studied the clinical, radioisotopic, and pathologic characteristics and the incidence of cancer in clinically solitary cold nodules of the thyroid in an iodinedeficient area. The study included retrospective analysis of 765 patients who underwent thyroidectomy for a clinically single cold nodule in a ten-year period. We compared the pathological findings with clinical data. In pathologic...
متن کاملPulmonary nodules in a patient with rheumatoid arthritis: Which diagnostic approach is the most appropiate?
Background: Pulmonary nodular excavation should firstly evoke tuberculosis or necrosis broncho-pulmonary tumor, particularly: epidermoid carcinoma. The case discussed here illustrated these difficulties in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). Case Presentation: A 63-year-old woman was presented with a-three-year history of RA and a recent discovery of an excavated pulmonary nodule. Initi...
متن کاملThe Value of LDH Level of BAL Fluid in Differentiating Benign from Malignant Solitary Pulmonary Nodules
Background: Serum lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) concentration is an indicator for tissue injury. It may be secreted locally in many conditions. For the first time, this study was performed to investigate the value of LDH level in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) in differentiation of benign from malignant single pulmonary nodules (SPNs) and to assess its relationship with serum LDH levels. Met...
